Create Your Own Chess Database with PGNs!

Upload PGNs to build private game databases for over-the-board matches or other platforms!

Update

August 9, 2024

TL;DR: Try it yourself now!

We’ve been working on this new feature for a while, and we believe it’s a game changer in how you can organize and analyze your chess games! You can now upload your games to ChessMonitor to create custom game databases.

Uploading some OTB games.
Uploading some OTB games.

Once uploaded, you can choose your custom database in the Explorer, Games, or Openings pages to view statistics only for those games. For now, you can either upload a full PGN file or paste PGN(s) into a text field. The ability to manually enter games on a board will be added later. If any issues arise during the upload (like duplicate games or invalid moves in a PGN), the uploader will inform you or even guide you to fix them.

To add more games later, click on the “Add Games” button in your account page next to your database. You can also upload the same file (with more games) and ChessMonitor will automatically detect which games already exist in your database.

By default, everything is private (even for free users). We understand how important your games are, and nobody else will be able to see them unless you explicitly grant permission by unticking the “Hide database” checkbox on your Account page.

There are some limitations for now:

  • The databases should only be used for personalized games, so you should be one of the players. Please don’t upload games from tournaments where you were not a participant. Support for non-personalized databases will be added later this year.
  • Currently, the feature is limited to five databases, each containing up to 5,000 games for Plus subscribers. Free users can upload up to 20 games in a single database (to explore the feature). Check out the pricing page for details.

We hope you enjoy this new feature as much as we do! Give it a try, and let us know what you think!

Happy chess playing!
