ChessMonitor Rating Averages, Feature Suggestions and more updates

Discover your rating trends, explore detailed opponent info, a revamped account page, and more in our latest ChessMonitor update!

Update

June 23, 2024

Last month, we announced the EXIST funding. Today, we’re excited to share the new features and improvements that have been added to ChessMonitor.

Rating Averages

We’ve implemented a new feature based on community feedback: Rating Averages. Now, you can view the average rating of your last 10, 20, 50, 100, or more games on your Rating page. This feature was suggested on reddit and let’s just quote the reddit user for the idea: “By watching this number instead of whatever your current rating number is you firstly get a better idea of your true playing strength and secondly you stop being so results oriented when having a bad streak / good streak”.

More opponent info, and filters for Opponent strength & name

For our subscribers, we’ve added several new features regarding opponent analysis. You now get a full list of famous opponents and opponents you have played in your Opponents page. Additionally, the new Opponent Strength Filter allows you to explore your games based on your opponents' strength. To see all games with a specific opponent, visit the Opponents page and click “View Games”.

Feedback Suggestions, FAQ & Discord

We’e added a suggestion page allowing you to submit ideas and feature requests. In combination with our Discord server, we are trying to listen even more to community feedback. A new FAQ page was introduced already a few weeks ago. It features a search bar at the top and contains now even more questions and answers. And if you have additional questions or want to discuss your feature ideas with us, head over to our new Discord server!

Revamped Account Page

The account page has been completely overhauled. You can now:

  • Set your preferences like Stockfish settings (max. depth, threads, etc.) and some other options.
  • Choose a profile name and URL (latter only for subscribers).
  • Subscribers can also link their Discord and Reddit for a subscribers-only Discord channel and a special subscriber flair on Reddit.
  • A dedicated page that shows details regarding your subscription and payments.

Registration via email/password

It’s now possible to register with an email and password (instead of using OAuth). If you want to add email/password login, you can also do this now, even when you already have an account. This does not influence the overall experience, but some users might feel more comfortable having a dedicated email/password entry.

Other Improvements

There have been many minor changes in the past month, including:

  • You can subscribe to our newsletter to not miss any blog posts! I promise, we won’t send you spam. Expect one mail every months (or even less) to keep you updated about new features!
  • The Activity page became “greener”. The “normal case” (winning 50%) of your games is now less red and more green. Also the proportions of the size of the squares were slightly changed.
  • Improved Stockfish integration: Even on older mobile phones, you can now use Stockfish (in an older version, tough).
  • Bug fixes regarding a nasty bug that would make your profile looking like it’s still updating when the update actually finished.
  • Bug fixes regarding the Lichess API (country information was not updated for a while)

We are excited about these updates and hope you find them valuable. As always, we appreciate your feedback and are committed to continuously improve ChessMonitor.

Thank you for being part of our community, and happy chess playing!
